The strength of a nation depends on the strength of its citizens by Fisayo Fakayode
How our leaders serve their fatherland is the most amazing thing in our country. Why do we even still sing the national anthem in Nigeria today? Has it become just a ritual? is it just a popular mantra, or an anthem which was composed for effect, but whose pertinence is gradually fading away?
According to the history of our nation, many of our present leaders enjoyed free education and the dividends of democracy of the first republic. Many of our unsong heroes established so many things to push Nigeria a notch closer to what a truly independent and developed country is. Is this feat firmly rooted in our country today, or are we plummeting as quickly as we skyrocketed? It is so sad that our leaders do not have plans of building upon the legacy of the past leaders.
The national anthem which is meant to be a template by which we act has lost its meaning. Are we saying our father land with love, strength and faith? Every Nigerian both home and in the diaspora should also have the understanding that Nigeria is a nation that belongs to everyone, both rich and poor.
This is why MainFocus News signifies its interest in urging every Nigerian to imbibe the initial love that brought Nigeria together as one nation under God. We need to be proud of where we call home and also encourage our children to love their country.
This is when the westerners will stop seeing us as savages and start looking at us the way we see ourselves. Workers, especially public servants should start earning their pay. This is the only way we can move forward as a nation. The national anthem has also stated that we need to serve our father land with strength; where is our strength in the servitude we are being voted for or appointed in today’s generation?.
Mainfocus News wants Nigerians to visit many government offices across the federation and see how things are being done. Many Nigerian workers are just concerned about their salaries and do not care a bit about the citizens or the humanitarian aids there are being employed for.
How will this country transform to what we want it to be when even we the citizens are not playing our role and doing our part well. Let us start doing everything with honesty. This is when we can work together in harmony. Minfocus News is putting it to the government to put in place more structures that can bring about effective governance in all sectors across the federation. The strength of a nation heavily depends on the strength of its citizens.
